Welcome to Grand Rapids! If you’re here for a quick day trip, layover or pass through I’ve got the best itinerary to make the most of your day in Grand Rapids. Check out this guide to spending one day in Grand Rapids that has a little something for everyone.
But First Coffee:
Stop by Madcap (they have 3 different locations in Grand Rapids) for some amazing coffee. I’m obsessed with their Six One Six blend and the nitro cold brew. Trust me for a great cup of coffee to start your day in Grand Rapids this is the best spot.
Brunch is Always a Good Idea:
After some coffee let’s talk about brunch or lunch options in Grand Rapids. I’m a huge fan of Terra for their seasonal ingredients and farm-to-table concept. You can’t go wrong with the apple cheddar salad, omelettes, or wood fired pizzas. Stick with a classic and visit Wolfgang’s or Cherie Inn for a fabulous traditional brunch and don’t miss out on the banana bread french toast at Wolfgang’s.
Tourist Time:
If you’re looking to fill up a couple of hours and want to do something a little “touristy” check out Frederik Meijer Gardens. If it’s a nice day take a stroll through the gardens or stay indoors to see the butterflies during the spring or Christmas around the world during the winter.
Shop Till You Drop:
If shopping is more your thing (I don’t blame you) take a look at Pink Lemonade, Rebel Reclaimed, Slate or Lee & Birch.
Treat Yo Self:
If you have a sweet tooth you can’t go wrong with a chocolate chunk cookie from Cakabakery, a macaron from Le Bon Macaron, or some ice cream from Love’s Ice Cream in The Downtown Market.
Cheers to Beer City:
You can’t visit Grand Rapids without a trip to one of the amazing breweries like Founders, New Holland Brewing, or Grand Rapids Brewing Company.
Downtown Dinner:
You can’t make reservations at Butcher’s Union, but trust me the food and atmosphere are totally worth the wait. If you want more options check out The Sovengard, Osteria Rossa or New Hotel Mertens.
