We recently spent a long weekend in Milwaukee, WI and I’ve been getting some requests for this weekend getaway guide. So here are some of my favorite spots in Milwaukee to stay, drink, eat and do while you’re in this city. If you’re traveling from Grand Rapids we drove to Milwaukee but you can also look into this option of taking the Lake Express. I really think this city is great for families, a couples getaway or a girlfriends weekend. I’m looking forward to going back again sometime soon!
Stay:
Brewhouse Inn & Suites: We absolutely loved staying at the Brewhouse Inn & Suites when we visited Milwaukee. Fun fact this hotel was originally the former Pabst Brewery so you’ll find things like copper brewing kettles in the lobby and every room is different. It was also nice having the daily continental breakfast each morning that made it easy to enjoy coffee in bed.
The Pfister Hotel: If you’re looking for a hotel downtown that has classic elegance and style check out the Pfister Hotel. This hotel has been operating since 1893 and it’s a true icon in Milwaukee. Scroll down to learn more about Blu for drinks and incredible views of downtown Milwaukee.
Kimpton Journeyman Hotel: The Journeyman Hotel is located in the historic third ward of Milwaukee. The attention to detail at this hotel is something you notice as soon as you walk through the doors. Scroll down to learn more about their amazing rooftop The Outsider.
Drink:
The Outsider: This rooftop bar came highly recommended by friends and we absolutely loved the vibe here. The Outsider is an indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar that has a little something for everyone. On a nice day this is the place to enjoy a drink on one of the comfortable couches outside.
Lakefront Brewery: You can’t go to Milwaukee and not experience one of the many breweries. Lakefront Brewery is a must for the beer, food and tour. I recommend trying the River West Stein. Cheers!
Pabst Milwaukee Brewery & Taproom: We were really excited to visit the new Pabst Milwaukee Brewery & Taproom while we were in Milwaukee. The Name Day anniversary chocolate ale was a highlight. My other highlight was beating Cory in Jenga #finally.
Blu: If you’re looking for some amazing views of downtown Milwaukee look no further than Blu located inside the Pfister Hotel. Blu is on the 23rd floor of the hotel and offers great cocktails and even better views. We really loved their happy hour that takes place Monday-Thursday from 5-8 PM.
Eat:
BelAir Cantina: BelAir Cantina came recommended by friends and we couldn’t stop talking about how amazing the tacos were. On Tuesdays and Thursdays they offer $2 select tacos which was perfect for lunch. The black bean and corn taco was my favorite!
Pizza Man: On our first night in Milwaukee we were really crazing pizza and ended up at Pizza Man. If you’re visiting on Wednesday they have BOGO large pizzas when you dine inn which is a great deal. We loved the thin crust pizza and extensive wine list.
Harbor House: On a warm summer day you can’t miss Harbor House for a great patio and views of the water. If you love seafood you really can’t go wrong at Harbor House and I really loved the shrimp and mussels. They also have an awesome happy hour Monday-Friday from 4-6 PM.
Do:
Milwaukee Art Museum: We heard from many people how amazing the art museum is in Milwaukee and unfortunately we only had time to walk through the lobby. We made time to head outside and see the wings of the museum flap at noon which was so cool to see.
Milwaukee Public Market: Whether you’re craving fish, ice cream, baked goods or wine the Milwaukee Public Market has it. We enjoyed walking around with a fresh baked cookie for a mid afternoon snack.
More Things I Love:
Colectivo Coffee: If you love coffee as much as I do you can’t miss Colectivo Coffee in Milwaukee. They have quite a few locations but the lakefront location was perfect for a morning catching up on some emails and sipping coffee outside.
