Disclosure: My stay at the Graduate East Lansing was sponsored, but all opinions here are my own. Thank you for supporting the sponsors who allow me to continue to create content on The GR Guide.
School’s out for the summer, but Graduate East Lansing is definitely in session! In case you didn’t know, Graduate Hotels recently opened a hotel in East Lansing, Michigan and I was so excited to check it out. This was actually my first visit to East Lansing (no joke)! The hotel is located VERY close to Michigan State University’s campus (literally across the street), and the downtown area. If you’re planning a trip to MSU I would highly recommend staying at this Graduate Hotel. Scroll down to get my full review of the hotel, and some recommendations in East Lansing.
Graduate Hotels
If you’re new to Graduate Hotels let me give you a quick introduction. You can find Graduate Hotels in many college towns across the U.S (and also the U.K). Check out the full list of Graduate Hotel locations here. What I love most about Graduate Hotels is the attention to detail, and the great amenities that each hotel offers. Graduate Hotels offer a one-of-a-kind experience in telling a story about the college as soon as you walk through the door. You’ll notice the artwork reflects the college, the color scheme fits the college colors, and even your room key is a photo of a notable person that graduated. It’s these details that make me want to stay at Graduate Hotels because it’s an experience you can’t get anywhere else.
Graduate East Lansing
Like I mentioned above, the Graduate East Lansing is located across the street from Michigan State University’s campus. We could actually see the Spartan Stadium from our room! Speaking of our room, we stayed in a corner king suite that had a wonderful living space to relax in and a separate bedroom. I LOVED the decor and how comfortable this room was (and let’s not forget about the view of campus). The Graduate East Lansing offers 13 different room types so there is something for everyone. Whether you’re traveling by yourself, with your significant other, friends or family they have a room for you.
As I mentioned, the amenities at the Graduate East Lansing are truly the best. They have bath products from Malin + Goetz (my favorite), complimentary Wi-Fi, a 24-hour fitness center, complimentary bike rentals, and are also pet friendly. How awesome is that? I loved exploring the hotel and looking at the different pieces of artwork that reflect MSU and the history of their agriculture program.
Dining at Graduate East Lansing
While you’re staying at the Graduate East Lansing you can enjoy coffee, breakfast or a snack at Poindexter located in the lobby of the hotel. Cory and I loved having a blueberry muffin with an Americano for breakfast while we stayed here. In the future Poindexter will also offer cocktails. PS how cool is the pencil backsplash seen below!? These are the details I love at Graduate Hotels.
Graduate Rock Bar isn’t open yet, but I was thrilled to get a sneak peak. This rooftop bar is going to be a popular spot to enjoy a drink and food on game days. You can actually see Spartan Stadium from the rooftop! I’m looking forward to checking this bar out the next time we’re in East Lansing.
East Lansing Recommendations
If you’re visiting East Lansing for the first time or just looking for some recommendations I’ve got you covered. We had a short 24 hour visit but enjoyed a drink at Black Cat Bistro and dinner at Barrio Tacos. I loved how walkable the downtown area was, and the outdoor spaces set up for the summer.
Other recommendations from from some followers on Instagram: Jolly Pumpkin, MSU Dairy Store, El Azteco, Maru, Charlie Kang’s Restaurant, Red Haven
If you’re looking for things to do in East Lansing I would highly recommend taking a walk through The W.J. Beal Botanical Garden at MSU. The garden was beautiful and perfect to walk through on a nice summer day. Michigan State University has a very large campus, but we also enjoyed walking around and seeing some of the beautiful buildings.
Are you ready to book your weekend getaway? You can schedule your stay at Graduate East Lansing here. A huge thank you to Graduate East Lansing for inviting me to check out the hotel. I had such a wonderful time and I can’t wait to come back. PS you can also read about our stay at the Graduate Ann Arbor a few years ago. I absolutely love Graduate Hotels and can’t wait to explore more locations in the future.
