A new school year is just beginning, a new season is on the horizon and I’m reaching a point where I need to make some adjustments to my work-life balance. Sound familiar? Summer is my favorite season, but with vacations and a bucket list of things to get done around the house I’ve been putting my workouts on the bottom of my to-do list. I’m assuming I’m not alone in this struggle for finding a balance between getting some “work” done and also making time for myself.
I’ve realized carving out some me time is a necessity to help me refocus, and it’s now a priority each week that I don’t push to the bottom of my to-do list. Each Tuesday and Thursday I do yoga at MVP Sportsplex to get my hear rate up, but also to gain some much needed focus and relaxation away from a computer screen. When my workout is over I feel refreshed and ready to get back to work at Work-Space by MVP.
If you haven’t heard about Work-Space let me fill you in. The Work-Space is exclusively for MVP Sports Clubs All-Star members and offers a casual environment and community work-space along with a complimentary beverage bar. They also have meeting rooms available and collaborative networking opportunities. When I need a change of scenery from my home office or I need to fit in my workout this is my go-to spot.
So, what are some of my tips for maintaining a work/life balance? Here are my top 3 tips that have really helped me regain some balance:
Make Your Workout a Priority
If your workout is at the bottom of your to-do list chances are you aren’t making this a priority. I struggled with this for a long time but just 20-30 minutes at the gym or trying a new workout class can be a great start. Working from the Work-Space gives me no excuses to not fit in a quick workout at the Sportsplex since I’m already there. Start with a workout goal that’s attainable, but most of all just start.
Limit Your Screen Time
The excuse of “I don’t have time” is something I continually repeated in my head until I noticed how often I was scrolling through my phone. I realize this is different for everyone, but I’m trading in some of those minutes I wasted on my phone for minutes at the gym. The tradeoff is huge to spend time doing something that really benefits my mind and body.
Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day
I would love to say that maintaining a work-life balance has been easy for me but I keep reminding myself that Rome wasn’t built in a day. I constantly remind myself to start small and continue to create goals that allow me to move forward one day at a time.
