With this warm weather it truly feels like summer is quickly approaching. As a midwest girl born and raised I’m all about a Michigan summer. This is the season we’ve all been waiting for. When people ask why I live in Michigan the first things I say is “you can’t beat the summer.” So when it comes to traveling during the summer I prefer to stay close to home and enjoy as much time as I can outside. A few of you asked for my favorite summer vacation spots in Michigan so here it is! Scroll down for some vacation ideas in Michigan.
Michigan Vacation Ideas
Staycation in Grand Rapids
Enjoy a staycation right here in Grand Rapids! There’s so much to do here in GR and great hotels. I would recommend the JW Marriott or the new Residence Inn. See the butterflies blooming at Meijer Gardens, take a walk around Reed’s Lake and enjoy dinner at one of your favorite restaurants.
Leelanau County
During the summer we can’t get enough time in Leelanau exploring Traverse City, Glen Arbor and Leland. You can check out this blog post on The GR Guide for my favorite things to do up north.
Mackinac Island
Cory and I love vacationing on Mackinac Island during the summer. You can read all about my favorite things to do, where to eat, and where to stay in this blog post on The GR Guide. This is a wonderful vacation spot to enjoy with your family.
Holland
Holland is just a short drive away from Grand Rapids. Enjoy some time at the lakeshore with your family as well as great shopping and dining in downtown Holland.
Detroit
Exploring Detroit is on my bucket list this summer. I would love to stay at the Shinola Hotel and enjoy walking around the city. There are some amazing restaurants, and activities to enjoy with kids in Detroit.
Petoskey
Take a drive up north to enjoy Petoskey and Harbor Springs! You can read all about my stay at the Inn at Bay Harbor which is perfect for staying with your family or just your significant other for a weekend getaway.
