When you live in Grand Rapids you know the summer season is something to savor after a long and brutal winter. I try to spend as much time outdoors walking my dog, eating lunch or dinner, and working out. This summer I’m excited to let you know that MVP Athletic Club is now offering YOGA on the GREEN every Wednesday from June 13 – August 15 from 7-8 PM. These outdoor yoga classes are free and open to the public (participants must be over 12 years of age). A limited supply of yoga mats are available, but if you have your own mat please bring it along with you.
As someone who loves yoga and staying active I’m going to get honest for a minute and tell you I started putting yoga on the back burner for quite a few months. I got busy with work, spending time with friends and didn’t think I would actually miss doing yoga on a weekly basis. Let me tell you I was wrong (really wrong). I recently started doing yoga every week and that time on my mat is important, beneficial and something I don’t compromise on anymore. So combining time outdoors and practicing yoga is something I’m really excited to jump into this week at MVP Crahen and here’s why.
Feeling More Connected Outdoors
I love practicing yoga in a studio, but being in nature brings a different element to yoga. Being aware of your surroundings, feeling the breeze on your face and enjoying the fresh air can enhance your yoga practice.
Trying Something New
If you’ve never tried yoga outdoors now is a great time to try at MVP Athletic Club! Bring a friend or meet someone new while doing yoga outside. After a long day at work this is a great time to meet outside at 7pm to enjoy some yoga.
Being Present
Maybe it’s just me, but part of the reason I really love yoga is the opportunity to be more present. Turning my phone off, concentrating on movements and connecting with nature can be very beneficial for staying more present.
