I think we can all agree that the best vacations involve sleeping in, relaxing by the pool or beach, reading a good book and enjoying some delicious food. I’m actually writing this post from Florida, and did all of those things yesterday so I’m totally in vacation mode. But, if there’s one thing I’ve learned from working out at MVP Sports it’s that working out is a lifestyle choice. When you get in a routine, when you start to notice little changes to your body and mind, or when you look forward to working out every week it becomes second nature. So how do I maintain working out on vacation? Here are my top 5 tips to fit your workout in while enjoying your vacation.
Tip #1: 20 Minutes is Better Than Nothing at All
I used to think working out was an all or nothing type of ordeal, and let me tell you that doesn’t have to be the case. Just 20 minutes of a walk or run on the beach, unrolling your yoga mat to do some of your favorite poses, or swimming some laps in the pool is better than nothing at all. Make a small goal that you can actually achieve and you’ll feel so much better about fitting in your workout.
Tip #2 Check Out a Local Fitness Class
Wherever you decide to vacation be sure to check out any classes your hotel might offer or a local fitness studio. I’m trying an aerial yoga class with some friends while I’m in Florida this week to get my workout in. This is a fun way to maybe try something new and hold yourself accountable to workout.
Tip #3 Motivate Others to Workout With You
I’ve mentioned this before, but working out with others is a great way to keep yourself motivated to fit in a workout. If you’re on vacation with friends, family or a significant other try to motivate them to join you on your workout. This can be a fun way for everyone to get involved and feel great on your vacation.
Tip #4 Tailor Your Workout to Your Vacation Location
If you’re taking a vacation at the beach maybe a walk on the beach, swimming in the pool or going for a run in town would be perfect for your workout. If you’re headed out west check out the hiking paths, or rent a bike to ride around town in. Whatever your vacation location try to fit in your workout to your surroundings.
Tip #5 Plan Ahead
Before you head out on vacation take a few minutes to plan your workouts ahead of time or do some research. Does your hotel have a workout facility? Does your hotel offer yoga mats or exercise classes? Are there activities I can book to fit my workout in? Planning your workouts ahead of time can really elevate the stress of trying to figure it out when you get there.
