So many of you have asked me to share some tidbits from the wedding planning process. I promise this blog won’t become infiltrated with wedding posts. I did however want to share some tips I learned while wedding dress shopping in West Michigan. Some of you know I worked in fashion for a few years, and when it comes to shopping I’m not a quick “add to cart” type of person. I take some time to really think about an item and do research before I hit purchase.
So when it came to my wedding dress I thought I had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted. I expected it would be a fairly easy process to find “the one” #wrong. The truth is the process was a little more tricky than I anticipated. But in the end I’m so happy with my decision, and wanted to share some tips I learned along the way. Remember – these are tips that I personally learned along the way, and if you read this and it doesn’t apply to your experience that’s totally fine! Feel free to leave comments and let me know if you have any other tips or tricks.
Tip #1: Be Open to Trying Different Styles On
If you’re like me and have a vision for that “perfect” dream dress hear me out for a second. The truth is there are so many different styles, colors, cuts, fabric choices, etc. when it comes to wedding dresses. Be open to trying a ball gown or lace or something different just to see what you do or don’t love about the style. Trying on dresses in multiple styles helped me narrow down what I loved and didn’t love. Shocker it wasn’t the one I thought I would choose. My biggest takeaway is don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone to find what you truly love.
Tip #2: Select a Small Number of People to go Dress Shopping With You
As much as I wanted to invite everyone to go dress shopping with me I’m so glad I narrowed it down to a small group. Wedding dress shopping can be a little stressful already and hearing so many different opinions from other people can make it even more stressful. Just make sure you invite the people you really love and trust to come with you.
Tip #3: Do Some Research Before Your Appointment
Before you head to your appointment do some research on brands that the boutique carries or styles that you’re interested in trying on. I think having some idea of what to expect when you go to the try on dresses is helpful. Just having a little knowledge about the bridal boutique or dress brands was essential for me.
Tip #4 Have Fun
This might be obvious, but don’t forget to have some fun. You’re shopping for your wedding dress with your close friends or family so don’t hesitate to make a day of shopping together or pop the bubbly when you find your dress. Congrats!
