Raise your hand if you have a drawer full of birthday, thank you or congrats cards for friends and family (*raising my hand). Growing up my mom would spend hours in a Hallmark store shopping for cards, so maybe this is where I got my love of cards. There’s just something about giving a loved one a card that fits their personality or shows them how much you care. If you’re not a card lover like myself or my mom that’s totally fine. But, let’s talk about why sending more handwritten letters is so important.

Why It’s Important to Send Handwritten Cards
Taking the time to send someone a card can go a long way. Cory travels quite frequently for work, and I make sure to have some extra cards on hand for him. I write day 1, day 2 on the cards for each day he’s gone with funny or I miss you cards inside. That might sound like a lot of work, but I enjoy writing these cards. And let’s be honest Cory appreciates a little piece of home while he’s gone. Here are some reasons why I think it’s important to send a handwritten card to someone:
- It forces you to slow down for a second – Let’s be honest, when we send a text message or email it’s very face paced. Taking the time to slow down find a card, write a message, look for an address and put a stamp on a letter takes some time. But, it’s worth it! A card to say thank you, congratulations or I’m sorry is totally worth the effort.
- It’s memorable – I don’t know about you, but I love getting letters from friends or family in the mail. I still have some cards I love hidden in a drawer from birthdays I just can’t get rid of.
- It can spark creativity – Taking the time to write a note might actually spark some creativity. How fun would it be to try calligraphy or watercolor to add some extra touches to your cards?

Where to Shop in Grand Rapids for Cards
Here are some of my favorite places in Grand Rapids to shop for cards:
- Rebel – I always find the greatest birthday cards here that just seem to fit my friends and family perfectly.
- Pink Lemonade – I love shopping at Pink Lemonade for cards that I know Cory would like.
- Pulp & Stem and The Paper Studio – I really like finding cards at both of these shops in GR!
- Design Design – Such fun cards made here in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
- Mason Jones – I always find the cutest cards and stationary here.
Let’s make a goal to send one hand written note to someone this week. Who’s with me?
