Oh hello again winter! Those of you who know me well know that winter is my least favorite season mostly because I hate being cold. But, that isn’t going to stop me or you from having a great winter here in Grand Rapids. Let’s embrace this season to the fullest with friends and family spending time outdoors, sipping hot chocolate and savoring those snow filled days. Happy winter friends! PS see the link below to print out or download a checklist for this winter bucket list.
Head to Meijer Gardens
One of our traditions during the holiday season is seeing the international trees at Meijer Gardens. From November 20, 2018 – January 6, 2019 you can see the Christmas and Holiday Traditions Around the World exhibit at Meijer Gardens. The trees are all so lovely and the Railway Garden is one of my all time favorites!
Go Ice Skating at Rosa Parks Circle
Ice skating at Rosa Parks Circle is a must during the winter! The 2018-2019 season kicks off on November 23 and ends on February 24. This is such a great idea for friends and family to experience together and also perfect for date night. Go ice skating first and then grab a drink or dinner downtown together.
Try an Escape Room
Have you tried an escape room yet? This is such a great thing to try on a snowy cold day in Grand Rapids with friends or family. We really enjoyed the Ruse Escape Room earlier this year and really want to try it again this winter. Try to escape with your friends and then grab a drink nearby at Rockwell Republic for a fun double date night.
Go to the Christmas Lite Show
The Christmas Lite Show is always fun for the whole family during the holiday season. Starting November 21-December 31 2018 this is a great idea for enjoying the winter weather and celebrating the holiday together.
Experience LaughFest
LaughFest doesn’t start until March, but you should save the date! Beginning March 7-17 there’s quite a lineup of amazing comedians coming to Grand Rapids this winter. Make this a date night downtown and have a fun time together experiencing LaughFest.

Take a Cooking Class
Sometimes the winter weather can be tricky for coming up with ideas for date night or things to do with friends. Why not try a cooking class at The Downtown Market, Sur la Table or The Local Epicurean.
Head to Cannonsburg
Whether you love skiing or you’re like me and have no clue what you’re doing Cannonsburg is a great spot to spend a winter afternoon. Check out the new snowcoaster for tubing that’s opening soon or try skiing with your friends.
Go to a Griffins Game
Cheering on the Grand Rapids Griffins is a must during the winter months. Grab your friends for a fun night out and see the Griffins play after you enjoy some dinner downtown.

I still haven’t tried fowling at the Fowling Warehouse, but it’s at the top of my own bucket list this winter. I’ve heard such great things about how fun this is for a group and great to do in the winter.
See the Nutcracker
The Grand Rapids Ballet does the Nutcracker each holiday season and this is such a fun tradition to start with your family. The shows start December 14-23 2018 at DeVos Performance Hall.
Head to the Downtown Market
The Downtown Market is so much fun during the holiday season. One of my favorite events is the Winter Wonderland on December 5 with a holiday artisan market and Santa!
Try a Staycation in Grand Rapids
You don’t have to travel far to experience a little vacation with your significant other. Why not try a staycation at the Amway Grand together? This is such a fun idea to try a new restaurant downtown and feel like you’re a tourist in your own city.
