I get asked quite often what made me start The GR Guide and if you’ve been following along you can see I absolutely love supporting local businesses in Grand Rapids. The local shops and restaurants in GR truly make this city unique and create a sense of community.
The Michigan Retailers Association launched their shop local campaign called Buy Nearby, and I’m really excited to share some of my favorite local shops in Grand Rapids. If you need a gift for your best friend, wedding, or birthday check out the shops below for some great options from local stores in GR. Also, save the date for the first weekend in October where you could win a $500 gift card in the Buy Nearby photo contest! On October 1 and 2 share a photo of you shopping on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and use the hashtag #ibuynearby in your post to enter the contest (get more details here).
My Guide to Shopping Local:
Pink Lemonade is one of my go-to shops in East Grand Rapids for gifts or let’s be honest shopping for myself. You can find the cutest baby clothes, letterpress cards, jewelry, candles, prints for your gallery wall and Michigan gifts. I know you’re thinking this store sounds too good to be true, but honestly this will become your favorite spot for baby showers, birthdays and wedding gifts.
Speaking of gifts I also love shopping at Blacklamb. When I’m searching for a new piece of jewelry or a fresh candle for my home I quickly head to Blacklamb. This shop will give you some serious wanderlust with many items inspired by travel and a great selection of travel kits and books. You can also find a fun selection of cards and unique gifts that your best friends will really enjoy.
When it comes to shopping for men I’m all about Brothers Leather Supply Co. located downtown Grand Rapids. If you’re looking for amazing leather pieces at an exceptional prices this is the store for you. You can find classic messenger bags, a dopp kit or even a leather growler bag for your Michigan beer loving men. Shopping at Brothers Leather Supply Co. is the perfect way to support a local business and enjoy quality leather pieces.
When I’m driving through Eastown a stop at Rebel.reclaimed is always a must. Rebel offers quirky gifts, hilarious cards, and fun Michigan inspired items. I’ve added a few pieces from this shop to my home including a pillow from local artist Sew Nifty Thrifty and a Grand Rapids tumblr glass on my bar cart. If you need a little inspiration for your home or a thoughtful gift for a friend Rebel.reclaimed is the place to be.
Thank you to the Michigan Retailers Association for sponsoring this post!
