You guys asked for a round-up of books I recently enjoyed, so here it is! I’m sharing some of my favorite reads from the past couple of months, and a few books I’m looking forward to reading. A lot of you have expressed interest in doing a virtual “GR Guide Book Club” and I’m working on details for this. Stay tuned friends! In case you need more book ideas you can check out this blog post of books I’ve read, and this blog post with some of your recommendations for books. If you have more book suggestions please leave a comment below!
Books I’ve Recently Read
I read American Royals by Katharine McGee and I couldn’t put this book down. This young adult romantic comedy book was a quick and easy read that definitely kept me entertained. I could see this book being a TV series or movie in the near future. If you’re headed to the beach this summer, I would file this book under the perfect “beach read.” FYI there is also a sequel to this book Majesty that I recently finished. This book was just as good as the first book, and I’m hoping a third book is in the works!
The Chicken Sisters by KJ Del’Antonia wasn’t my favorite read. I found the story line a little predicable, and wasn’t hooked on the characters. I wouldn’t say I disliked this book, it just wasn’t my favorite or one that I would recommend to friends.
If you haven’t read The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, I would totally add this to your reading list. This book was one I couldn’t put down, and the storyline was gripping and thought provoking. I will mention this book has some triggering moments with suicide/attempted suicide. I want to make that clear before anyone reads this book, as it’s something I’m sensitive to reading.
One of my favorite recent reads was The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. I’m a huge fan of Kristin Hannah and her writing (I also read The Nightingale this year). The Four Winds takes place during the Great Depression, and was really interesting to follow from a women’s perspective during this time. My dad and grandma recently listened to this book on tape and they both can’t stop talking about how good it was. I can totally see this book being made into a movie in the near future.
For another great beach read this summer I would recommend Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The book is written in the form of an interview (which was interesting and takes some getting used to). But, I really enjoyed this book as the characters were well developed and the storyline kept me hooked.
If you’re a fan of Anthony Bourdain or cooking you have to read Kitchen Confidential. This book changed my perspective of the restaurant industry and was truly a great read. Some of the chapters I were super interesting, and some I found myself skimming. But all in all this was a really good book, and I want to read his new book World Travel.
Do you love a thriller book? The Guest List by Lucy Foley was very suspenseful and had me hooked till the end. This book follows a wedding taking place on a remote island in Ireland, and something happens to one of the guests. I love a good suspense thriller book, and this one didn’t disappoint.
Books I’m Currently Reading or Want to Read
I’ve had Untamed by Glennon Doyle on my “bookshelf” for a LONG time. I was trying to get it from the library and was on a hold list and then didn’t get around to reading it last summer. Now that I’m reading it, I’m wishing I had just bought the book. I’ve found myself wanting to underline sections, and I’m reading it slow to absorb each chapter. I love reading books before bed, and this is one of those books I can’t read at night because I think about it too much. So I’m currently trying to fit some reading in during the day to finish this book.
I’m also reading The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse right now. Like I mentioned above, I enjoy reading suspense thrillers and this one already has me hooked. The beginning has been a little slow, but I’m getting into it and trying to guess what’s happening. I’ll be sure to report back if I would recommend reading this book.
Another book I’m looking forward to reading this summer is The Rose Code by Kate Quinn. I love historical fiction, and I’ve heard great things about this book!
