If there’s one thing I know I’m good at it’s gift giving. I’m the type of person who would rather give gifts than receive them. Which I know sounds kinda crazy. I don’t think you can really give someone a bad gift, but I’m going to share some of my tips to giving a great gift. Here are five gift ideas that you can’t go wrong with for your best friend, mom, brother or significant other. Honestly these gifts are perfect for anyone you need a gift for (big or small). Whether it’s their birthday, anniversary, Christmas or a big promotion at work here are my top gift ideas.
Dinner
You can’t go wrong taking your friend out for dinner at their favorite restaurant. Trust me this one is a no-brainer for a gift. I’ve taken my best friend to a local restaurant she wanted to try for her birthday and we had the best time catching up. I’ve also set up a reservation for my parents and put my credit card on file to pay for their dinner. Drop off some flowers at the restaurant for their table or a card and you’re all set. Taking someone to dinner or surprising them with a meal or dessert sent to their table never fails for a gift.
Experience
One of my favorite gifts to give people are experiences. For Cory’s birthday I surprised him with a trip up north and wine tasting at our favorite wineries up north like Mari and Brys Estate. We had such a fun weekend together and these experiences and memories are so much better than an actual gift. Last Christmas I gifted my dad a hotel stay at the Palmer House in Chicago for him to enjoy with my mom. They just got back from their weekend in Chicago and had the best time.
Framed Photo
One of my favorite gifts to give someone is a framed photo. I’ve done this with family pictures or for a friend’s birthday. My friends also gifted me a photo of all of us for my bachelorette party. I absolutely love how thoughtful gifts like this are. If you’re worried about someone liking the frame in their home or can’t decide what photo to print I would recommend a gift card to Artifact Uprising or Framebridge. I’m not a huge fan of gifting someone a gift card, but at the same time they can use it to get something they really love. Ask them to send you a photo when they get the photo printed!
Something Personalized
Anytime you can get a gift personalized you’re golden. Put their name or special date on something and you’re sure to get a tear or two for how special the gift is. I gifted Cory a print from The Night Sky for Christmas and it was one of his favorite gifts. I’ve also gifted him a photo album from Artifact Uprising with all of our memories from the year. A personalized gift is something your friend or family member will truly cherish.
Membership or Subscription
Can’t think of a gift to give someone? Try a membership somewhere or a subscription to something they love. Last year I gifted my sister a membership to the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum for her birthday. This was perfect for her to enjoy with her boys and she uses it all the time. My parents have gifted Cory and I with a membership to Meijer Gardens and we loved visiting for the summer concerts. I would also suggest magazine subscriptions (I do this for my Grandma’s often), wine subscriptions, beer club membership, or grocery delivery membership.
I hope these gift ideas were helpful! If you need some wedding gift ideas check out this post.
