I’ve gotten quite a few requests to share some of my favorite places to enjoy sushi in Grand Rapids. So I guess you could say this blog post is long overdue on The GR Guide. Whether you love sushi or are just beginning to try sushi here are some of my top places that I really enjoy. Feel free to leave comments letting me know where you love to eat sushi!
Maru
Maru has been a long time favorite of mine for sushi. They actually have a few locations throughout Michigan in Detroit, East Lansing, Kalamazoo, Midland, Okemos and of course Grand Rapids. I really love their spicy salmon roll and edamame paired with a glass of wine. Also, don’t miss their great happy hour!
Ando Sushi + Bar
I can’t get enough of the sushi at Ando! With a great location downtown this spot is great for lunch or dinner with friends. I love sitting on the open patio during the summer, but it’s also super cozy in the winter with the fireplace. The hot seasoned edamame is one of my all time favorites (if you love spicy things this is truly worth trying). I also really love the spicy salmon or spicy yellowtail sushi and joyful hour is the best!
Rockwell Republic
Rockwell Republic is a great spot to enjoy sushi with friends downtown. I really like the spicy california roll here with sriracha for some extra heat. Can you tell I like spicy food yet? Also, you can’t go wrong with their awesome happy hour that includes some of their sushi rolls.
Ginza Sushi & Ramen Bar
Ginza Sushi & Ramen Bar recently opened on Michigan St. and I was really impressed when we ordered take-out here last week. I had a cold and was craving miso soup and let me tell you it was amazing. We also really liked the edamame that had just the right amount of salt. The spicy tuna roll was also great with the perfect amount of kick from the sriracha.
Jaku Sushi
If we’re seeing a movie at Celebration North we love dinner before or after our movie at Jaku Sushi North. They also have a second location in Caledonia – Jaku Sushi South. They are known for their sushi burritos, which let me tell you are amazing. I also really love the Yellowpeno roll (pictured below) which has a good amount of spice from the jalapeños.
