Is it 5 o’clock yet? When it comes to my drink of choice 9 times out of 10 I choose wine and during the summer months I typically gravitate towards a white or rosé (preferably on a patio). So where are some of the best spots in Grand Rapids to enjoy a glass of wine? I’ve rounded up my favorite places that I think have a great wine list and ambiance to sip a glass of wine with friends. Cheers!
Butcher’s Union
During the summer months the patio at Butcher’s Union just seems to call my name for a crisp glass of rosé. After living in Chicago for five years there’s just something above the vibe at Butcher’s Union that takes me back to that “big city” feel. I’m also impressed with the types of wine they offer and you can’t beat their happy hour during the week.
Aperitivo
Wine + cheese? Umm yes please. I love visiting Aperitivo in the Downtown Market for discovering unique cheeses and trying different types of wine. The staff is always very helpful to make sure you find something you’ll enjoy and I love trying something new here. PS during the summer the front patio is perfect for catching up with friends while enjoying a glass of wine.
New Hotel Mertens
Cory and I both love New Hotel Mertens for date night when we’re downtown because when it comes to the atmosphere and the wine list it just doesn’t get much better. We both love our Michigan wines and finding Bluestone, Shady Lane, and Mari Vineyards on the menu makes us pretty excited.
Terra
I had to include Terra on this list because I love that they offer M. Lawrence Sex on draft. Along with featuring wines from smaller vineyards and farmer-operated wineries they have a great list of wines to try. I’m a huge fan of enjoying a glass of wine on the patio during these warm summer nights along with their delicious smoked salmon spread.
Reserve
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Reserve. With an extensive wine list and incredible food options you can’t go wrong here. This is a good spot to enjoy some snacks or small plates with friends and a wine flight. Cheers!
