Living in midwest I’m no stranger to the evolving craft beer scene. It’s tough to play favorites when it comes to beer, but I’m thrilled to partner with one of my all time favorites Great Lakes Brewing Company for their “All Yours” campaign. Cheers!
If you’re not familiar with Great Lakes Brewing Co. let me give you a little inside scoop. Located in Cleveland, OH Great Lakes Brewing Co. is celebrating 30 years this year -can you believe that? They focus on quality and freshness with their beer with a special focus on the Great Lakes. I love that each beer is actually named and has a unique story inspired by the Great Lakes. I also appreciate the family oriented culture of Great Lakes Brewing Co. which was started by two brothers who can relate to the importance of family and the experience of sharing stories together over a beer.
If you can’t make it to Great Lakes’ pub in Cleveland, be sure to check out their Pint Size Pub this summer. The Pint Size Pub is a traveling version of the GLBC brewpub experience, and will be making stops throughout the Great Lakes region all summer. GLBC will also be giving away a prize that includes a trip to Cleveland to help the brewery celebrate their 30th anniversary in September 2018.
The Dortmunder Gold Lager is my all around favorite and let me tell you why. This beer has won medals and it’s Great Lakes Brewing Co.’s flagship beer, but there’s more to it than that. For me “Dort” beer brings family together and it’s as simple as that. Every Sunday my family gathers around the table for a meal to connect with one another talking, laughing and telling stories. The smooth finish of this beer with a sweet malt and dry hop flavor is something that everyone can enjoy and it pairs perfectly with my family’s favorite dish – salmon.
Making the drive to northern Michigan each summer is a trip my family looks forward to all year. The chance to reminisce of summers past, swim in Lake Michigan and cook our favorite meals together which always includes fresh salmon. For me family is number one and the chance to gather around the table to share a meal is something I truly value.
If you’re interested in trying our family’s famous roasted salmon (trust me it’s amazing) here’s the recipe. Although this is so easy to make it probably can’t be labeled as a recipe. Enjoy!
Roasted Salmon
Ingredients:
Skin on salmon filet
Butter
Salt
Pepper
Lemon
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F. Line a roasting pan or baking sheet with aluminum foil.
Rinse your salmon under cold water and lay flat on paper towel. Pat the fish to make sure it’s dry (this is key to not having mushy fish). Cut 2 tablespoons of butter and cut into small pieces to put on top of the fish. Sprinkle the top with a generous amount of salt and pepper. Cut a few wedges of lemon and put these on the baking sheet along with the salmon to roast.
Depending on how thick your salmon is will determine how long to cook it. Generally 5 minutes per half-inch thickness of the salmon is about right. You can see the salmon will start to turn a lighter pink color and flake easily with a fork with it’s done. Serve with lemon and a glass of Dortmunder Gold Lager.

Boo hoo. Just saw this today (the 11th). Dortmunder is my all time go-to favorite. I hope the Great Lakes samplers find their way to the Ann arbor area! Cheers.
