If you aren’t a fan of winter, join the club. Don’t get me wrong having all four seasons in Michigan is great, but I honestly would take summer all year long. I love warm weather and motivating myself to get out in the winter is tough. But, since winter is here let’s make the most of it and have some fun planning a date night. I’ve got seven great ideas for your next date night in Grand Rapids this winter (all approved by Cory).
Coffee in an Igloo
What could be better than sipping a coffee in an igloo? Plan a Saturday morning date and head to Outside Coffee Co. for some delicious coffee while relaxing in one of their igloos. Yes, these igloos have heat so don’t worry about being too cold.
Ice Skating Downtown
If an outdoor activity is more your thing check out the ice skating in Rosa Parks Circle downtown. This is a fun way to enjoy the city lights at night, and grab dinner before or after skating at a nearby restaurant.
Go Fowling
If you haven’t tried fowling at the Fowling Warehouse yet, now is your time to go. This is a great winter activity since it’s indoors. If you’re going on a double date or night out with friends fowling is perfect for a group to play against each other.
Go to Meijer Gardens
When the weather gets cold I could probably spend all day in the tropical conservatory at Meijer Gardens. The warmth and humidity will make you think you went on a tropical vacation. Actually, one of our first dates was at Meijer Gardens and we had the best time talking and walking around the gardens.
See a Movie
I have to be honest that I’m not a huge fan of going to the movies. But, during the winter months I think it’s a fun way to get out and experience a great movie. I would highly suggest seeing a movie at Studio Park downtown because the seats in the theatre are heated (perfect for winter). You can also grab a drink or dinner at One Twenty Three before or after your movie.
Try a New Restaurant
When was the last time you tried a new restaurant? Date night can be a great excuse for trying something new like Max’s South Seas Hideaway or Bowdie’s in East Grand Rapids.
Stroll the Farmers Market
Did you know the Fulton Street Farmers Market is open year-round? Cory and I love picking up seasonal veggies during the winter months at the farmers market. And since Van’s Pastry Shoppe and Madcap Coffee are so close to the market, its a perfect excuse to enjoy a donut and coffee together.
