Most of you reading this have probably been working from home for at least a month now. As someone who’s been working from home the past couple of years I know it can be a rough adjustment at first. So, I wanted to share few tips and tricks that I’ve found to be helpful when working from home. Here are five tips for working from home that I’ve found to be essential.
Tips for Working From Home:
Get Dressed
No, you don’t have to dress up (although sometimes that helps a little) but don’t stay in sweatpants or pajamas all day. Trust me you can try this a few times and you’ll be much less productive. Getting in the mindset of going to work starts with getting ready and getting dressed for the day.
Take Breaks
When you work from an office you typically have a scheduled lunch or get up to talk to a coworker. When you’re at home those breaks fall by the wayside with no one else around or getting so focused on a project. Take time to schedule an afternoon break, or take time to eat your lunch. It’s important!
Utilize a Productive Space in Your Home
If you can find a space in your home like a guest bedroom, dining room table or basement I would highly suggest setting up a productive space. Avoid the bedroom or couch if at all possible. Sleeping in the same space you’re working just causes unnecessary stress thinking about work. If you need some music to stay productive, check out my stay at home playlist.
Have a Routine
If you typically start your day at 7 AM and end at 4:30 PM try and stick to that routine. The moment you start working at 9 AM and loose track of what time it is you’re setting yourself up for disaster. Stick to you typical work routine and you’ll have a much easier time staying productive.
Prepare Yourself for Distractions
Unfortunately when you work from home you don’t have the luxury of closing your office door and saying goodbye to distractions. If you have kids, a significant other or a dog at home be prepared for distractions. Wrigley is always next to me, barking at other dogs or wanting to play with his toys. These distractions come with the territory when you work from home.
