Happy New Year! I’m so excited (as I’m sure we all are) to leave 2020 in the past and welcome 2021 with open arms. I would be remise not to look back on this past year with all the ups and downs, and not share some things I learned along the way. Scroll down for 20 important lessons I learned from 2020. And please share lessons you learned in the comments below!
20 Lessons I Learned in 2020
Appreciate the Little Things
Take a moment to appreciate a walk by the lake, a thank you note in the mail, fresh flowers from the farmers market, or a sweet text from a friend.
Being Bored Isn’t a Bad Thing
A slower pace wasn’t what I wanted in 2020, but it was what I needed. That feeling of always wanting to be productive or moving really shifted last year. And I’m learning that being bored or having some down time is ok.
Tell People You Love Them
Send a text, make a call or send a note to your loved ones.
Self-care & Mental Health is Important
Make the time for you a priority.
Have a Backup Plan
A backup plan was a necessity for my business and personal life last year. Sometimes you aim for plan A, but you need plan B or C to carry you through.
Invest in People Who Invest in You
Invest in friends who invest in you. Use technology to connect with friends near and far.
Be Grateful
Make a list of what you’re grateful for each day.
Set Attainable Goals
Ease slowly into this new year by setting attainable goals for yourself or your business.
Fight for Equality
It’s extremely important to speak up and speak out on this platform and social media. This is a responsibility I take very seriously.
Shop Local
Shopping local is a choice and one I’ll continue making in 2021.
Set Boundaries & Learn to Say No
I said no to a lot of things in 2020. I’ve learned that saying no to things that don’t fit my goals or priorities is 100% worth it.
Make Your House a Home
With all this time at home we’ve been creating a space we love. Stay tuned for our next renovation!
Be Kind
You never know what others are going through, so just be kind.
Invest in Your Community
Volunteer, donate or get involved in your community.
Get Outside
Even in the winter months, make a commitment to getting outside and enjoying some fresh air.
Try Something New
A new recipe, a new tv show, a new hobby…
Be Patient
If this past year has really thought me anything it’s being patient.
When in Doubt, Buy a Puzzle
Cory and I did almost 10 different puzzles in 2020. I’m sure there will be many more in 2021. This puzzle from Rifle is my new favorite.
Don’t be Afraid to Show Your Emotions
Sometimes I think I need to have everything together on social media, but I’m learning life is messy, raw and never perfect. And it’s ok to show this.
Send Cards More Often
Everyone loves a birthday card, some encouragement or thinking of you card.
